Places they came from

Introduction

There have been questions recently from my son and grandchildren about ancestors and I realised I had quite a lot of information but it was not well assembled or very acessible so thought I would try to put some of it together.

Great grandparents of various levels, (sometimes 2x great and one 3x great) emigated from Scotland and England to New Zealand between 1840s and 1890's.

I thought I'd just jot down what I've learnt about the places in family history. Others have done quite a bit of work on the family trees so I don't plan to repeat that.

Dad Ian Earnest Thompson did quite a lot of work assembling known information and gathering some more on paper. His sister Laurel Lillian Thompson self published a booklet My Story with more information, stories and photos.

From my generation

My cousin Sue Bedingfield has developed the family tree of Mum's side Isabella Morrison McLeod on ancestry. To access ancestry you either need to pay or get permission from Sue to be added as a guest to this tree. Sue also visited some of the places that ancestors came from and has shared photos and also got a report from a genealogist on Skye about some aspects of family history there.

My cousin Robynne Lozier has developed the family tree of Dad's side Ian Earnest Thompson  on wikitree.  Wikitree is free to access and you can join free if you want to add more. Robynne actively tracked down family history especially in Devon and Orkney.

Part of my interest has been to learn more about where ancestors came from and maybe glean from that a bit about their stories and possibly a bit of at least my hunches about why they came.
